With a cancer diagnosis, we can experience a sense of overwhelm, and shock, and our meaning of life may shift. Navigating the cancer experience is challenging. Tina Moynihan is a Clinical Psychologist and Registered Nurse, (with 20 years' experience across multiple nursing specialities, including palliative care). She currently specialises in providing psychological treatment and support to people with a cancer diagnosis. Tina sees people at any stage of their cancer experience, or family members, friends, and carers who may be navigating the cancer journey alongside their loved one.

Our approach to working with families is from a systematic family therapy lens which provides a wholistic framework to the interconnectiveness of families. We are intrigued to understand the function of each individual role, their emotions, beliefs, wishes and how they regulate emotions. It is a structured assessment and feedback program that helps couples understand their relationship dynamics, identify strengths and growth areas, and build skills in communication, conflict resolution, and shared meaning. Trained facilitators guide couples through personalised results to support healthier, more resilient relationships.

The Westmead Feelings Program (WFP) is a supportive, evidence‑based program designed to help neurodivergent children build confidence in understanding and managing their emotions. It provides children, parents, and teachers with practical tools to navigate everyday feelings such as happiness, worry, frustration, and anger.

The program teaches children how to:

• Recognise and name their own feelings

• Understand what emotions feel like in their bodies

• Identify other people’s emotions

• Solve social and emotional problems

• Use strategies to manage strong feelings

These skills are taught using visual supports, structured activities, and clear, step‑by‑step learning—approaches that align well with the learning styles of many neurodivergent children.
